We're seeking an Editorial Manager to lead the content strategy and execution for a prominent urban planning platform. As the Editorial Manager, you will play a key role in shaping content that serves a passionate and professional audience, ensuring that both the website and online courses deliver exceptional value. You will be responsible for guiding the editorial direction, optimizing content quality, and driving audience engagement. Key Responsibilities
Editorial Strategy & Leadership:
Develop and execute a data-driven editorial strategy across multiple platforms.
Set clear goals and define editorial direction to meet company objectives.
Manage the editorial content budget, aligning with broader company goals.
Act as the representative for the editorial team on the leadership team.
Report on key projects and metrics, and drive strategic planning each quarter and year.
Collaborate with marketing, sales, and product teams to support shared goals.
Editorial Planning & Execution:
Oversee and refine editorial calendars to ensure timely and relevant content.
Curate, write, and edit news, features, blogs, and other editorial content.
Build relationships with writers, instructors, partners, and content creators to maintain a consistent flow of content.
Participate in social media efforts and video production, including scripting for YouTube and other platforms.
Content Quality:
Ensure content relevance and high quality for a national urban planning audience.
Stay updated on trends and developments in urban planning and the planning media landscape.
Team Management:
Lead and support the editorial team, including the Editor and Video Producer & Editor, ensuring that goals and deadlines are met.
Conduct weekly one-on-one meetings to align priorities and ensure high-quality work.
Qualifications
5+ years of relevant experience in editorial management, urban planning, or a related field.
Strong passion for urban planning, with knowledge of the planning media landscape.
Excellent editing and writing skills; online journalism or communications experience is a plus.
Proven success in growing and managing a media website.
Familiarity with content management systems, SEO, and data analytics tools.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
Experience working with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency with digital tools such as Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, Jira, Notion, Adobe Creative Suite, and analytics tools.
A keen interest in business growth and learning opportunities.
Success Metrics
In the first 30 days:
Gain a comprehensive understanding of the products and content platforms.
Review editorial metrics, including traffic trends, to identify areas for improvement.
Contribute 5-10 news posts per week.
In the first 90 days:
Develop a content strategy to align with traffic goals and prioritize editorial activities.
Coordinate with the editorial team and external contributors to streamline content distribution.
Lead pre-production efforts for your first set of online courses.
In the first year:
Implement your content strategy to achieve a significant increase in traffic, aiming for an 18% growth in annual page views.
Compensation & Benefits:
Base salary: $70K - $115K, based on experience.
Paid time off (15 days, increasing to 20 after four years).
Holiday time off (~10 days per year).
