Job Description

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will play a critical dual-phase role operations-based EHS leadership position , overseeing ongoing environmental health and safety functions within the manufacturing plant. The EHS Manager will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations, continuing to foster a strong safety culture, and driving continuous improvement in EHS performance across the site.

The EHS Manager will be responsible for oversight of environmental health and safety during the construction and build phase of a mid-size manufacturing facility in North America (approximately 6–9 months). Establishing and enforcing robust safety protocols on the project site, promoting a culture of safety, and ensuring all personnel are working in a safe and compliant manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Phase I: Construction / Project Phase (First 6–9 Months)

• Lead the implementation of EHS programs during plant construction, ensuring alignment with local, state, and federal safety standards.
• Develop site-specific safety policies and procedures for construction activities.
• Deliver safety training including new hire orientations, toolbox talks, and hazard-specific sessions.
• Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
• Daily engagement with on-site project teams to drive awareness and adoption of safety practices.
• Track and report safety performance metrics such as TRIR and near-miss incidents.
• Lead investigations for any on-site incidents or injuries, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
• Serve as liaison between contractors, construction teams, and internal stakeholders regarding EHS matters.
• Maintain detailed records of all safety-related activities, reports, and compliance documentation.

Phase II: Operations / Manufacturing Phase

• Oversee ongoing plant safety, health, and environmental programs post-construction.
• Continue to develop and deliver EHS training for plant employees.
• Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
• Collaborate with plant leadership to embed safety into standard operating procedures.
• Lead internal safety committees and manage plant-wide emergency preparedness initiatives.
• Daily engagement with on-site project teams to drive awareness and adoption of safety practices.
• Monitor and report on environmental performance and sustainability efforts.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety culture and reduce risk.

REQUIREMENTS:

• This is an on-site role requiring presence throughout the construction and operational phases.
• Must be able to work in outdoor and indoor environments and adapt to changing conditions, including weather and terrain.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of EHS management experience in manufacturing environments and/or industrial construction .
• Strong knowledge of Federal, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
• CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification preferred.
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
