Job Description

FedEx contractor is looking to fill the role of Assistant Business Contact (Assistant BC) for a Full-time role. This position requires the ability to effectively lead a team of drivers managing 25+ routes. The ideal candidate will be adaptable, possess a strong

work ethic, and demonstrate exceptional leadership skills. A proactive approach to problem-solving, confidence, an ownership mentality, and excellent communication skills are essential for success in this role!

The ideal candidate should demonstrate a proven track record in leadership, human resources, and logistics, with experience in optimizing route planning. Key responsibilities include assisting the BC in managing daily operations, improving processes, and driving the team in achieving both safety standards and operational excellence. 

Please note:  This is NOT a standard Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM position. The job requires flexibility, including some long days, weekend work, and to be on call 24/7, as the business provides support to FedEx (customer) that operates around the clock, all year long. However, we strive to accommodate schedule flexibility whenever circumstances allow.

ASSISTANT BUSINESS CONTACT/ASSISTANT OPS MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assist the BC in leading and managing a team of 25+ drivers
  • Route planning - Responsible for understanding and estimating the daily service needs of FedEx and its customers, scheduling drivers according to hours of service guidelines, managing equipment needs, dispatching drivers, and optimizing routes for efficiency
  • Monitor delivery exceptions and resolve complaints received
  • Responsible for coaching, training, recognizing and rewarding, performance evaluation, discipline, addressing driver concerns, and staff productivity
  • Ensure an adequate number of drivers is maintained to complete all assigned runs; assist the BC in managing employee schedules, including workforce planning and time off
  • Use & train drivers on technology and applications such as GroundCloud, VEDR, scanner, and DRO (route planning software)
  • Ensure proper pre-trip & post-trip inspections are being performed on a daily basis
  • Assist the BC in resolving vehicle breakdown incidents; manage routine maintenance and repairs of vehicles
  • Ensure all proper documentation and reporting of accidents are done in a timely manner
  • Confirm and report attendance discrepancies to HR for payroll purposes each week
  • Assume the role as a driver for “clean-up\ or \fill-in\ whenever needed
  • Hold weekly team safety meetings as well as one-on-one training, when needed
  • Track performance throughout the day with a focus on Safety, Service & Efficiency
  • Provide assistance to the BC in analyzing operational data, identifying areas of improvement and implementing corrective actions
  • Provide ongoing support/assistance to drivers via calls or messaging app, including documentation & communication with the station
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure drivers complete all safety training
  • Report daily & weekly to Management to ensure routes and procedures are running efficiently\\Maintain an excellent relationship with FedEx Station Management. Perform daily check-ins and timely responses to their inquiries

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Verifiable 3+ years of Operations, Logistics or Route Management, preferably with FedEx or a similar operation (UPS, DHL, Amazon, etc)
  • Possess excellent time management, organizational, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills necessary to work in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate team members
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to analyze data and generate comprehensive reports
  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver license (Class A, B, or C), with a clean driving record (no speeding tickets in the past 2 years, moving violations, or other incidents)
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and DOT physical
  • Physically able, willing, and ready to drive large delivery vehicles (step vans, 26-foot straight trucks, and bulk trucks)
  • Deliver packages in a safe manner to residential and commercial recipients; ensure that other drivers are doing the same
  • Possess legal status to work in the US; proficient in English
  • Possess reliable transportation
