Job Description

At Chewy, it is our mission to become the most trusted and convenient online destination for pet parents and our partners – vets and service providers – alike. Our success is measured by the happiness of the people and pets we serve, not simply by the amount of pet supplies we deliver. That’s why we continue to think of outside-the-Chewy-box ways to delight, surprise, and thank our loyal pet lovers!

Chewy is passionate about our customers' experience. We move fast to rethink and redesign our supply chain optimization frameworks from ground up. If the opportunity to build a best-in-class supply chain network, make a big impact, and deliver large scale savings intrigue you, we will want to talk to you!

Our Opportunity

Chewy is seeking a Software Engineer III to join our inbound logistics team in Bellevue WA, Minneapolis MN, or Boston MA. The team is focused on improving Chewy’s processes and decision-making around bringing inventory into our fulfillment centers, ranging from transportation decisions to informing inbound labor planning. This role will act as an Individual Contributor, part of a team of engineers and data scientists, to design, test, and implement solutions.

You'll partner with your teammates to deploy new and enhance existing products. You will be relied on as a thought leader in the space, proposing new ideas for existing problems; and as a technical leader who is equally comfortable digging into an engineering problem and partnering with a data scientist to deploy a model.

What You’ll Do

  • AWS: Using AWS services, design, develop, and maintain systems, and deploy and maintain ML models
  • Software Development: Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices in software engineering. Ensure that all code is well-documented and undergoes rigorous peer review.
  • Software Engineering Best Practices: Advocate for and implement software engineering best practices, including version control, code reviews, unit testing, and continuous integration continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Data Security and Compliance: Implement best practices for data security and compliance, ensuring that all data handling meets Chewy’s security standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other engineering teams to understand data needs and develop robust solutions that meet business objectives.
  • Performance Tuning: Continuously monitor and improve the performance of data solutions, identifying bottlenecks, optimizing data processing speeds, and ensuring ease of maintenance and scalability.
  • Communication: Communicate project status, risks, and solutions to team and partners, and act as technical point of contact to influence collaborators regarding trade-offs
  • Leadership: Actively guide Team Members in design and implementation, troubleshooting, thinking outside the box

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of experience as a Software Engineer preferably in both front-end and full-stack development
  • Proven experience building scalable, highly available systems
  • Ninja coding and debugging skills
  • Passion for metrics and data-driven decision making
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Solid understanding of CS fundamentals: object-oriented design, algorithms, and problem-solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Approximately 4% domestic travel required
  • The position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Chewy is committed to equal opportunity. We value and embrace diversity and inclusion of all Team Members. If you have a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act or similar law, and you need an accommodation during the application process or to perform these job requirements, or if you need a religious accommodation, please contact CAAR@chewy.com.
